The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the results of the senatorial and House of Representatives by-elections held on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

In a statement on Sunday, the Elections Secretary of the Edo PDP Caretaker Committee, Chris Nehikhare, condemned the process, accusing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of colluding with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to manipulate the outcome.

INEC had declared APC candidates Joseph Ikpea (Edo Central Senatorial District) and Omosede Igbinedion (Ovia Federal Constituency) as winners.

Nehikhare described the elections as a “disgrace to democracy,” alleging that INEC deliberately sabotaged the process by manipulating the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).

“This was not a technical failure,” Nehikhare said. “It was deliberate sabotage by INEC in collaboration with the APC to rig the process and gain undue advantage.”

He insisted that BVAS is essential for election credibility in Nigeria and that any failure undermines democratic integrity.

“In a truly democratic society, INEC officials responsible would have been dismissed and prosecuted,” he added. “Nigerians deserve free, fair, and credible elections—not predetermined outcomes.”

The PDP called for a review of the entire election process and warned that democracy in Nigeria remains under threat without credible reforms.
