Nigerian music star Ayo Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has become the first African artiste to surpass 12 billion streams on Spotify across all credits, extending his record on the global music streaming platform.

The milestone was announced on Monday by WizStatz, a music statistics account on X, which attributed the achievement to the singer’s growing catalogue of solo releases, collaborations and guest appearances.

“WIZKID (@wizkidayo) becomes the first African Artist to surpass 12 Billion Streams On Spotify Across All Credits,” the account posted.

The figure covers songs released by Wizkid as a lead artiste, as well as tracks on which he featured alongside other musicians. It therefore reflects the combined streaming performance of his music across different projects rather than streams from his solo catalogue alone.

The achievement marks another major moment in the career of the Grammy-nominated singer, who has remained one of Africa’s most prominent musical exports through his blend of Afrobeats, pop and other contemporary sounds.

Wizkid’s international breakthrough gathered momentum with the success of his 2016 collaboration with Canadian singer Drake on One Dance, which topped charts in several countries and introduced him to a wider global audience.

He further strengthened his international profile with projects such as Made in Lagos, whose hit single Essence, featuring Tems, gained widespread attention and earned recognition in the United States.

His collaborations with international stars, alongside his solo releases, have helped expand the reach of Afrobeats and connect African music with audiences across different continents.

The latest milestone follows another streaming record in May 2026, when Wizkid became the first African artiste to surpass 11 billion Spotify streams across all credits.

Crossing the 12 billion mark further underlines his commercial reach on the platform and places him among the African artistes whose music continues to attract substantial global listenership.
