Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United, with the winger spotted at the club’s Cobham training ground on Friday to undergo a medical and finalise personal terms.
The Blues are set to seal a £40 million deal for the 21-year-old, who has fallen out of favour under United boss Ruben Amorim. Reports on Thursday confirmed that both clubs had reached an agreement, paving the way for Garnacho’s switch to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca confirmed the Argentine’s presence but played down speculation until the move is officially completed.
“I know he is around here,” Maresca told reporters. “I don’t know exactly where. He’s a winger, and I see him as a winger.”
The Italian tactician also hinted at more potential transfer activity before Monday’s deadline, saying: “The window is still open. Anything can happen in and out.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea will be without key attacker Cole Palmer for Saturday’s clash against local rivals Fulham. Palmer remains sidelined with a groin injury sustained against West Ham, while Benoit Badiashile and Romeo Lavia also continue their recovery.
“Cole is day to day,” Maresca explained. “Romeo and Benoit might not be back right after the international break, but they’ll be closer. For Romeo, the goal is to build him up with more games this season.”
Chelsea currently sit fourth in the Premier League table, following a goalless draw with Crystal Palace and an emphatic 5-1 win over West Ham.
