Chelsea have reportedly moved closer to securing the signature of Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho, with sources confirming the player has agreed personal terms with the London club.

The 21-year-old Manchester United forward is said to have made Stamford Bridge his preferred destination, a position he has maintained since July. Negotiations between Chelsea and United over a transfer fee are expected to commence soon.

Garnacho’s potential switch comes as manager Enzo Maresca continues to strengthen Chelsea’s attacking options. The club is also actively pursuing Dutch international Xavi Simons, underscoring their ambition to assemble a youthful and dynamic squad ahead of the 2025/26 season. If both transfers go through, Chelsea could boast one of Europe’s most exciting young front lines.

Speculation about Garnacho’s future at Old Trafford has intensified since Manchester United’s Europa League final defeat to Tottenham in May. Manager Rúben Amorim was criticised for reportedly telling Garnacho to “find somewhere else to play” shortly after the loss, a remark that appeared to widen tensions between the player and coach.

Although Garnacho joined the squad for their post-season tour of Asia, he appeared disengaged and later skipped United’s pre-season trip to the United States. Speaking during a stop in Chicago, Amorim said: “You can see he’s talented, a really talented boy at that. But sometimes things don’t work out. You can’t always explain why, but I feel it’s clear Garnacho wants something different, with different leadership.”

The manager added that such situations are part of football: “Sometimes you adapt well to a coach and build a connection; other times, a new challenge is what a player is looking for. It’s natural in football.”
