The Ghana Armed Forces has published the names of eight individuals who lost their lives in Wednesday’s tragic military helicopter crash.
The incident involved a Z-9 helicopter operated by the Ghana Armed Forces, which lost contact while en route from Accra to Obuasi, a gold-mining town in the southern part of the country. The crew was reportedly on their way to an official assignment when the crash occurred.
President John Mahama described the tragedy as a national disaster and immediately suspended official activities in its wake. He also ordered flags to be flown at half-mast nationwide in honour of the deceased.
Below is the list of the victims and their respective roles:
1. Edward Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence
2. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed – Minister for Environment, Science and Technology
3. Muniru Mohammed – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator and former Minister for Food and Agriculture
4. Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman, National Democratic Congress (NDC)
5. Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary Candidate
6. Peter Baafemi Anala – Squadron Leader
7. Manaen Twum Ampadu – Flying Officer
8. Ernest Addo – Sergeant
In a condolence message, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu sympathized with the people and government of Ghana, urging the grieving families to take solace in the fact that their loved ones died in service to their country.
