Peter Obi, former Labour Party presidential candidate, has categorically denied any involvement in electoral malpractice, asserting that his political record remains clean and guided by integrity.

In a statement shared via X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Obi emphasized that throughout his political journey, he has never resorted to violence, thuggery, or ballot box snatching.

“Throughout my political journey, I have never been involved in thuggery, the snatching of ballot boxes, or any form of electoral malpractice,” he wrote.

“I challenge anyone to investigate my record. You will find no trace of rigging or violence associated with my name.”

Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, also maintained that his opponents have always been treated fairly during campaigns and elections.

“Ask anyone who has run against me. None were harassed, denied their rights, or falsely accused. They didn’t have to pay outrageous fees for campaign adverts or face undue pressure. I believe in fair competition not manufactured victories,” he added.

Reaffirming his commitment to a single presidential term if elected, Obi expressed surprise at the skepticism surrounding his stance.

“It still surprises me that my pledge to serve only one term is causing such debate.
This reaction suggests we doubt that real progress can be made in four years.”

He dismissed any claims that he is desperate for power, describing such notions as completely at odds with his values.

“I’ve never been desperate for power or for anything else.”

According to Obi, his ambition is rooted not in personal gain, but in a desire to see Nigeria work effectively.

“My drive isn’t personal ambition. It’s a deep commitment to national transformation.
If serving one term with sincerity and accountability is what’s needed, I’m ready to make that sacrifice.”

He believes that with focused leadership, a single four-year term is enough to address corruption, uphold the rule of law, and rebuild critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

“In four years, we can take decisive steps against corruption and reallocate resources to priority sectors. For example, the trillions wasted on luxurious presidential jets and other excesses could be redirected to education, healthcare, or infrastructure.”

Obi also pledged that under his leadership, elections would be transparent, free, and fair.

He concluded by underscoring his philosophy of leadership as a duty, not a privilege.

“To me, leadership is not about entitlement, it’s about service. If entrusted with the mandate, even for just one term, I will commit every day to building a Nigeria that works for everyone.”
