The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has lost his mother, Mama Lydia Yilwatda.
She passed away on Sunday morning at the Jos University Teaching Hospital at the age of 83.
The sad development was confirmed in a statement by the APC Publicity Secretary in Plateau State, Shittu Bamaiyi, who described the deceased as a devout Christian, a virtuous leader, and a strong pillar of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN).
“The All Progressives Congress in Plateau State received with shock the news of the passing of Mama Lydia Yilwatda, mother of our National Chairman. According to family sources, she died this morning at JUTH, aged 83,” the statement read.
Bamaiyi noted that Mama Lydia, together with her late husband, Reverend Toma Goshewe Yilwatda, made significant contributions to the growth of the church across Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, and Plateau States.
He added that her passing was not only a painful loss to her family but also to the APC in Plateau State and Nigeria at large.
“There is no doubt that her death is devastating to the Yilwatda family, especially at a time when her motherly counsel and prayers were most needed by Professor Yilwatda. However, the consolation is that she left behind a remarkable legacy, reflected in her children and her service to God and humanity,” the statement further noted.
The party commiserated with Prof. Yilwatda and prayed for the peaceful repose of his mother’s soul.
