Jose Mourinho’s stint in Turkey has come to an abrupt end after Fenerbahce dismissed him following their failure to qualify for the Champions League league phase.
The club confirmed his departure shortly after their elimination in the play-off round, where they were narrowly beaten 1-0 on aggregate by Portuguese side Benfica. The board wasted no time in taking decisive action, bringing Mourinho’s tenure to a close.
The Portuguese tactician, who guided Fenerbahce to a second-place finish in the Turkish Süper Lig last season but failed to deliver silverware, has now found himself back on the market. His last trophy came in 2022 when he lifted the UEFA Europa Conference League with Roma.
Reports have already linked Mourinho with a possible return to the Premier League, where he famously won three titles with Chelsea. Nottingham Forest have been mentioned as a potential destination, although no formal move has been made.
Whether the “Special One” will head back to England or take on a new challenge elsewhere remains to be seen, but speculation around his future is expected to grow in the coming weeks.
