The Kano State Police Command has apprehended two suspects and recovered several stolen items, including 23 mobile phones, three Point-of-Sale (POS) machines, and other valuables.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Saturday. He identified the suspects as Umar Aliyu, 25, and Sabiu Kabiru, 27, both from Gunduwawa Village in Gezawa Local Government Area.
According to Haruna, the duo were arrested on August 7, 2025, at about 3pm by operatives of the Command’s Special Intervention Squad following credible intelligence and the directive of the State Commissioner of Police.
He explained that a search on the suspects led to the recovery of:
- 23 mobile phones (10 Android and 13 keypad phones)
- 3 POS machines
- 17 Opay instant debit cards
- 3 MP3 players
- 8 mobile phone batteries
- 1 power bank
Quoting the statement, Haruna said:
“During the investigation, the suspects confessed to conspiring and breaking into a business centre in Dinyar Madiga Village, Takai Local Government Area, where they allegedly stole the items.
However, further investigation revealed inconsistencies in their claim, and it was determined that the stolen items were not taken from the stated location.”
The police spokesperson further noted that, to help identify rightful owners, the Command has ordered the public display of the recovered items.
He added: “Members of the public who recognise the items or have information about their ownership should visit the Bompai Police Headquarters, Kano, at the Office of the Police Public Relations Officer, or contact the Investigation Police Officer directly via 08063333548.”
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised the operatives for their professionalism and restated the Command’s resolve to ensure public safety and bring criminals to justice.
