The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, has arrested a 27-year-old man, Umar Adamu-Umar, for trafficking cannabis valued at over ₦10 million.

According to a statement released on Saturday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, the suspect who hails from Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State was apprehended on August 6 along the Zaria-Kano Road.

Operatives from the NDLEA’s Kiru Area Command intercepted Umar while he was transporting 19 parcels of Cannabis Sativa from Lagos to Kano.

“The suspect confessed to being involved in the illegal drug trade and had been under surveillance for some time,” said Muhammad-Maigatari.

He noted that the seizure not only disrupted the trafficking network’s supply chain but also delivered a major financial setback to the group.

“This interception significantly hinders the revenue stream of these traffickers, reduces resources available for further criminal activities, and ultimately protects communities from the social and economic harm caused by drug trafficking,” he added.

Muhammad-Maigatari reaffirmed that under the leadership of Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, the Command would continue to intensify patrols and intelligence-led operations to combat drug trafficking across the state.
