The Olowu of Kuta, His Royal Majesty Oba Dr. Adekunle Oyelude Makama (CON), has hosted members of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Regular Course 29 at his palace, pledging unwavering support for the Nigerian Armed Forces and their role in safeguarding national stability.
The event formed part of the 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association, held on Friday at the palace of Olowu of Kuta, Osun State.
Speaking to journalists, Oba Makama, a distinguished member of Course 29 described the gathering as a cherished military tradition known as a “sit-out” and expressed pride in hosting the year’s meeting at his palace.
“This visit holds a great meaning within military tradition. We call it a sit-out. Course 29 holds its AGM every year, last year, it was Maiduguri. For 2025, Osun State was chosen, and I was privileged as a distinguished member to host this historic gathering.”.
The Monarch also stressed his commitment to national stability, civil-military harmony, and patriotic service. “The Nigerian military has our support at all times,” he said.
The Course 29 President, Commodore Mathew Bolaji, praised the association’s unity and continuity over the years, noting that one of the high points of the Osogbo AGM was the visit to the Olowu’s palace.
“This is Course 29. We sit and plan how to chart our course further. We’re holding this year’s AGM in Osogbo, but one of the most important activities is our visit to the palace. Kabiyesi is one of us, and I’m very proud of him.”
Also speaking, Lieutenant General Lamidi Adeosun (Rtd) commended the importance of the sit-out and lauded the Olowu’s longstanding friendship with the military while also conveying the regards of Ambassador Lt Gen Tukur Buratai (Rtd), who could not attend due to being out of the country.
“This is Course 29. And this year, Osun State happens to be our host location. Kabiyesi, the Olowu of Kuta, is not only a revered traditional ruler but a long-standing friend of the military. He also shares a personal bond with my boss, Ambassador Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai (rtd), who would have loved to be here but is currently out of the country.”
This year’s AGM further reinforced that bond, bringing together senior officers in a show of camaraderie and national pride.
