The Osun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the mysterious death of a young woman, Bidemi Omole, who reportedly died shortly after arriving at her boyfriend’s residence in Esa-Oke, Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State.
According to eyewitness accounts, Bidemi had gone to visit her boyfriend, identified simply as Yinka, on Friday evening when she suddenly fell ill. Sources in the community told PUNCH Online that the lady began vomiting not long after her arrival, and despite efforts to rush her to a hospital, she died on the way.
The incident, which occurred around 9:30 pm, threw the quiet community into confusion. Residents trooped to Yinka’s house in the Oke-Esa area as news of her death spread rapidly.
A neighbour, who identified herself as Taye, said the deceased did not stay long in Yinka’s house before the tragedy occurred.
“We heard cries for help and quickly ran to Yinka’s compound. By the time I got there, the place was already crowded with people and security personnel. It was shocking because she was believed to be heading for a vigil that night before this unfortunate incident happened,” she recounted.
It was further gathered that Bidemi was known in the community for regularly attending night vigils on Fridays.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, said the case was reported to the police on Saturday, and the deceased’s boyfriend had since been arrested to aid investigations.
Ojelabi stated: “The incident happened on Friday. The deceased, Bidemi Omole, went to her boyfriend’s house in Esa-Oke. According to him, she suddenly fell ill after arriving and started vomiting. She was being rushed to a hospital when she died on the way. The suspect, Yinka, is in police custody, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the actual cause of death.”
