The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a suspected serial vehicle thief, identified as 24-year-old Chidi Nwoye, and recovered stolen vehicles along with several incriminating exhibits.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement on Monday, said operatives attached to Isiowulu Division, working with local vigilantes, apprehended the suspect in the early hours of August 22 along Minaj Road, Obosi, while he was operating a stolen tricycle.

According to Ikenga, “The Anambra State Police Command operatives attached to the Isiowulu Police Division, working with local vigilante operatives in the early hours of August 22, 2025, arrested a notorious vehicle theft suspect, Chidi Nwoye ‘M’, aged 24 years, who was operating a tricycle and recovered some stolen vehicles and other exhibits.”

Items recovered from the suspect include a Hyundai Tucson vehicle (without ignition key), a tricycle, eight assorted mobile phones, a driver’s license, two bunches of keys, four master keys, ATM cards, a PVC, a vehicle tracking device, an ignition device, a battle axe, a black face-cap with “AVG Special Force” inscription, beads, a sling bag containing cash and personal effects, among others.

Ikenga disclosed that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to using master keys to steal vehicles and tricycles from parked positions. He added that investigations have been extended to the suspect’s hideout for possible recovery of more stolen items.

“To this end, the Command urges members of the public, especially those whose items may have recently been stolen as mentioned above, to visit Isiowulu Police Station for possible identification and recovery. The suspect shall be charged to court on the conclusion of the investigation,” Ikenga stated.
