The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has declared its intention to embark on a nationwide protest on Wednesday, August 20, in response to a recent accident involving a Dangote truck that left Ruth Otabor, a recent graduate of Auchi Polytechnic, critically injured.

The incident, which took place along the Auchi axis in Edo State, has sparked outrage within the student community. Otabor is currently undergoing treatment at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital.

Following the accident, representatives from Dangote Group Plc visited Otabor and pledged to provide full medical care, support, and compensation in accordance with the company’s welfare policies.

The company also issued a public statement expressing regret and wishing her a swift recovery.

Despite this, NAPS, through a statement signed by its Action Committee Chairman, Olasunkanmi Ijaduoye, and Public Relations Officer, Usman Dende, has issued a series of demands directed at Dangote Cement Plc.

These include employment for Otabor, housing, comprehensive medical and financial support, and broader measures aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future.

The student body has emphasized that the protest is not solely about one victim, but about confronting a wider pattern of corporate negligence and unsafe road practices.

They have announced plans to picket Dangote Group facilities across the country and are calling on students, workers, civil society organizations, and the general public to join in solidarity.

In their statement, NAPS framed the protest as a collective stand against impunity, urging Nigerians to take action in demanding accountability and safer roads.

They assert that the August 20 demonstration is not merely an expression of anger but a firm demand for justice and lasting change.
