President Bola Tinubu has expressed heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Ghana following a tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including two senior government officials.
The fatal incident involved a Z-9 military helicopter operated by the Ghana Armed Forces, which lost communication during a flight from the capital, Accra, to the gold-mining town of Obuasi on Wednesday.
Among those who perished in the crash were Edward Boamah, Ghana’s Minister of Defence, and Ibrahim Mohammed, the Minister of Environment. Other victims included Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former Ashanti Regional Minister; Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Twum Ampadu; Flying Officer Ernest Addo; and Sergeant Addo.
In a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu extended his sympathy to Ghanaian President John Mahama, assuring him of Nigeria’s solidarity during this moment of deep sorrow.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Ghana as they mourn this profound national tragedy,” the statement read. “President Tinubu urges the nation and the grieving families to take solace in the fact that the victims lost their lives while serving their country with dedication.”
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the departed and for strength and comfort for their loved ones.
