The Odo-Otin Local Government Traditional Council in Osun State has stepped in to mediate a rift between the Alasi of Asi, Oba Isaac Oyewale, and the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Adewale Egbedun.

The intervention was announced by the President of the Traditional Council and Olokuku of Okuku, Oba Abioye Oyebode, during a press briefing at his palace in Okuku on Friday. Oba Oyebode revealed that the council had mandated himself and the Oloyan of Oyan, Oba Kilani Adekeye, to meet with Oba Oyewale and obtain further clarification on the issues surrounding the dispute.

The controversy erupted following the circulation of a voice note on social media in which Speaker Egbedun accused Oba Oyewale of allegedly backing thugs who attacked him in Okuku. The Speaker also reportedly threatened to take action against the monarch.

The viral voice note sparked a peaceful protest in Asi, with some youths accusing the monarch of targeting Egbedun, who is a native of the town.

Efforts to reach Oba Oyewale for comments proved unsuccessful, as he did not respond to text messages and his phone line remained unreachable.

Providing insight into the council’s efforts to address the issue, Oba Oyebode said, “We held a meeting at my palace yesterday (Thursday), attended by several royal fathers including the Oloyan of Oyan, Atapara of Iyeku, and Alagbeye of Agbeye. During the meeting, concerns were raised about the conflict between Alasi and Speaker Egbedun. While no fault was found with the Speaker, we resolved to invite Oba Oyewale today (Friday) at 4pm for further discussion. I, along with the Oloyan, have been tasked with conducting the investigation.”

Oba Oyebode emphasized the Speaker’s positive contributions to the local government, including the facilitation of community projects and empowerment initiatives. He expressed optimism that the matter would be peacefully resolved.

Also speaking on the issue, the Oloyan of Oyan, Oba Adekeye, disclosed that upon hearing of the dispute, he reached out separately to both Egbedun and Oba Oyewale. He stated that Speaker Egbedun had expressed full readiness to cooperate in resolving the misunderstanding.
