Former Oyo State Governor, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has taken a major step toward becoming the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

In a traditional ceremony held at the Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba, Ibadan South East Local Government Area, the Afobaje of Ibadanland, Chief Waheed Popoola, placed the sacred Akoko leaves on Ladoja’s head—an important ritual signifying his transition to kingship. The event was met with loud cheers from a large crowd of well-wishers.

This precedes his move to the Ose Meji House, where he is expected to be officially crowned as the new Olubadan.

Ladoja’s elevation follows the passing of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan, who died on July 7, 2025.

Notable personalities in attendance included High Chief Aare Latoosa, Chief Onikepo Akande, among others.
