Nigerian international striker, Victor Boniface, has completed a season-long loan move from Bayer Leverkusen to Bundesliga rivals Werder Bremen.
The 24-year-old forward finalized the switch after passing his medical examinations and fulfilling all contractual obligations. The deal, which runs until June 2026, includes an arrangement that will see Bayer Leverkusen continue to cover part of his wages.
Boniface, who joined Leverkusen in the summer of 2023 from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise, quickly became one of the standout performers in German football. His powerful presence in attack, ability to hold up play and clinical finishing played a vital role in helping Leverkusen secure the Bundesliga title last season, the club’s first in its history.
Despite his contributions for the club and the competition for places under former coach Xabi Alonso, he prompted the decision to seek regular playing time elsewhere.
A proposed move to Serie A giants AC Milan had been in advanced stages earlier in the transfer window but collapsed at the last minute, clearing the way for Bremen to secure his services.
For Werder Bremen, the arrival of Boniface represents a major attacking reinforcement as the club looks to push for a strong mid-table finish and possibly European qualification. His addition is expected to provide firepower alongside Niclas Füllkrug and strengthen Ole Werner’s options in the final third.
Official confirmation from both clubs is expected imminently, with Boniface likely to be unveiled before Bremen’s next Bundesliga fixture.
