Dangote Industries Limited has distanced itself from a truck involved in a deadly accident on Wednesday in Enugu State, clarifying that the vehicle is not part of its official fleet.

The crash, which occurred around 9:00 a.m., involved a Howo truck carrying cement and a Toyota Corolla. Although the truck bore branding similar to Dangote’s, it was identified as belonging to Visco Investment Global Limited and was reportedly en route from Aba to Abuja.

Speculation on social media had linked the truck to the Dangote Group, prompting the company to issue a formal denial.

“We are engaging with the appropriate agencies to determine why the truck was displaying our logo, despite not being owned or operated by us,” the company stated.

The Group emphasized that the truck in question was operated by a third party and not part of its logistics network.

“Going forward, we will apply stricter scrutiny to prevent unauthorized use of our brand identity, particularly on vehicles not associated with the Dangote Group,” the statement added.

While noting that it typically refrains from commenting on individual incidents, the company said the widespread misinformation compelled a response.

“It is our policy to avoid commenting on isolated events, but the ongoing spread of false claims has made it necessary to clarify the facts.”

The company also pledged full cooperation with the relevant authorities investigating the incident.

“We are committed to supporting the investigation and insist that due process must be followed without external interference. We reject any attempt to exploit this tragedy for malicious or financial motives.”

Dangote Group reiterated its commitment to safety, corporate responsibility, and brand integrity.

The latest incident has reignited public criticism of Dangote-branded trucks, which have frequently been linked to road accidents nationwide.

In one recent case, Ruth Otabor, sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Ijeoma “Phyna” Otabor, died after being hit by a truck reportedly tied to the company.

The accident occurred near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, just six days after her graduation. Ruth’s family confirmed her death in a statement through Eko Solicitors & Advocates.

Eyewitnesses said the truck crushed her leg before being stopped by a bystander. She later died following a leg amputation.

The case has fueled renewed calls for stricter regulation of heavy-duty vehicles, especially those associated with Dangote’s operations. Critics accuse the company of not doing enough to monitor its logistics partners and prevent reckless driving.
