Nottingham Forest are set to name former Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach following the dismissal of Nuno Espirito Santo.
Nuno was relieved of his duties after a reported breakdown in his relationship with club owner Evangelos Marinakis. His departure comes despite previously guiding Forest to Premier League survival, a top-seven finish, and European qualification during his tenure.
According to The Athletic, Forest are expected to confirm Postecoglou’s appointment within the next 24 hours, with the Australian tactician bringing several of his trusted backroom staff from Tottenham.
Forest’s hierarchy had considered several candidates, including U.S. Men’s National Team coach Mauricio Pochettino, alongside Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva, and Oliver Glasner. Ultimately, Postecoglou was chosen, with Marinakis eager for a coach with proven Premier League success.
Postecoglou, who left Spurs earlier this summer and was replaced by Thomas Frank, enjoyed a memorable spell in North London. He ended Tottenham’s 17-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League against Manchester United and also secured Champions League qualification.
Nuno was appointed in December 2023 as successor to Steve Cooper, managing 73 games, with 28 wins.
His highlight was leading Forest to European football for the first time in decades.
Postecoglou now returns to the Premier League aiming to replicate his Spurs success at the City Ground.
Postecoglou’s first game in charge of Nottingham Forest will be a tough test at the Emirates Stadium this Saturday, where his side faces Arsenal in the Premier League.
