Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, is not planning to defect from the ruling party, his spokesperson Edwin Olofu confirmed on Sunday.
Olofu dismissed growing speculation that Ganduje was considering a move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), just two months after he resigned as APC chairman.
The rumors emerged following his abrupt departure from the position on June 27, 2025, a move attributed to health concerns. Ganduje’s sudden exit, after nearly two years in office, took many political observers and party insiders by surprise, fueling speculation about his next steps.
Appointed in August 2023, Ganduje was the sixth individual to lead the party in just over a decade, during a period marked by frequent leadership changes.
His resignation sparked conversations about possible realignments within the party, particularly among his loyalists.
Speaking to Sunday PUNCH, Olofu reaffirmed Ganduje’s loyalty to the APC and to President Bola Tinubu. He described the defection rumors as unfounded, asserting that Ganduje remains committed to the party’s goals and the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Asked whether Ganduje had met with President Tinubu since his resignation, Olofu declined to comment, saying only the former chairman could confirm such details.
Amid the swirling reports, Ganduje recently paid a visit to the newly appointed APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda.
The visit raised questions about a possible political reconciliation, but Olofu clarified that the meeting was both personal and a condolence call.
He emphasized that Ganduje expressed full support for Yilwatda and pledged to assist him in any way necessary, describing the interaction as cordial and forward-looking.
