The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final register of voters ahead of the November governorship election in Anambra State.
In a statement issued after its weekly meeting on Thursday, the Commission confirmed that voter registration was concluded across the 326 wards of the state between July 8 and 20, 2025.
INEC disclosed that 168,187 people completed their registration as new voters. However, following the use of the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS), 27,817 entries were flagged as multiple or double registrations and subsequently removed.
“Consequently, the valid number of new registrants stands at 140,370, in addition to 5,983 applications for voter transfer into the state, bringing the total number of new voters to 146,353,” Sam Olumekun, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, said.
Before the latest exercise, Anambra had 2,656,437 registered voters. With the addition, the voters’ roll has now risen to 2,802,790.
According to INEC, Idemili North tops the list with 246,318 voters (8.79%), followed by Awka South with 216,611 (7.73%) and Ogbaru with 188,016 (6.71%). Conversely, Dunukofia and Anambra West recorded the lowest figures with 83,580 (2.98%) and 71,332 (2.55%) respectively.
The Commission also confirmed that Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for new registrants will be ready for collection before the election.
