The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 3,544,850 Nigerians have completed online pre-registration in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

According to a statement issued by INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the figure was recorded three weeks after the exercise resumed on August 18, 2025.

The data shows that women are leading in the registration so far, with 1,834,917 participants (51.76%), compared to 1,709,933 men (48.24%). The majority of registrants — 2,291,809 (64.65%) — are between the ages of 18 and 34, while students account for 882,441 (24.89%).

On completed registrations, the commission revealed that 288,614 Nigerians have finalized the process through either online pre-registration or physical (in-person) registration, which began on August 25. Out of this number, 132,634 (45.96%) are male and 155,980 (54.04%) female. Young people aged 18–34 dominate again with 215,414 (74.64%), while students make up 114,150 (39.55%).

Olumekun further disclosed that detailed statistics, including registration breakdowns by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability status, have been published on INEC’s official platforms for public access.

While appreciating the strong public response and civic mobilisation efforts, INEC warned against attempts to register underaged persons. The commission stressed that only citizens who are 18 years or older at the time of registration are eligible, adding that it is illegal to encourage under-18 Nigerians to register in anticipation of turning 18 before the 2027 general elections.
