The member representing Irepodun/Orolu State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Adekunle Oladimeji, has urged communities in his constituency to embrace unity and peaceful coexistence.
Oladimeji made the call in a statement issued on the occasion of the International Day of Peace, observed globally on September 21.
He noted that communal clashes in Ilobu, Ifon-Osun, and Erin-Osun had caused deep social and economic setbacks, weakening the bonds that once united the towns.
According to Oladimeji, who is also the Deputy Majority of Osun Assembly, peace remains the only pathway to progress in education, infrastructure, business, and social development. He stressed that the shared aspirations of the three communities can only be achieved when differences are set aside.
“As your representative, I call for an end to the cycle of hostility that has plagued us for too long. Let us embrace dialogue, respect, and mutual understanding to build a better constituency,” he said.
Oladimeji commended Governor Ademola Adeleke’s ongoing efforts at peacebuilding while pledging his own commitment to promoting harmony and progress in the constituency.
He further appealed to residents to see peace not as a passive state but as an active commitment to securing a safe and prosperous future for the next generation.
The three communities in the constituency had earlier this engaged in a bloody war that led to deaths and destruction of properties worth millions of naira.
