The wife of the Lagos State Governor, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has called on Nigerian women to rise above complacency and actively embrace leadership roles in politics, governance, and nation-building.

Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Summit held in Lagos on Thursday, themed “Arise, Aspire and Ascend,” Sanwo-Olu emphasized the need for women to move beyond partisan interests and take on the broader responsibility of shaping society and building lasting legacies.

“As women, we must step out of complacency and take our rightful place in leadership, influencing politics, governance, and nation-building. This is about impact, about shaping society, and creating a legacy for future generations,” she said. “Every time we recite the national anthem, we are reminded of our duty, and that is what we must fulfil.”

She expressed delight that the summit also engaged teenagers, youths, and first-time voters, describing them as the future of Nigeria’s democracy.

In his remarks, Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, commended women for their vital contributions to societal growth. He noted that women’s organisational skills, resilience, and compassion make them indispensable in nation-building.

“Women are kind, smart, strong, prudent, and focused. They are always thinking of ways to help others and make society better. Truly, women are great,” Ojelabi said.

Also addressing the gathering, Lagos APC Woman Leader, Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, urged young participants to take advantage of the platform to influence the national discourse.
