The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says troops of the Armed Forces killed several terrorists, arrested 85 suspects, and rescued 66 kidnap victims during nationwide operations in August.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, disclosed this while briefing journalists on Thursday in Abuja.
According to him, troops of Operation Hadin Kai in the North-East eliminated scores of Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters, arrested 15 suspects — including 13 collaborators, a gunrunner, and a drug peddler — and freed eight kidnapped victims.
In the North-West, troops engaged terrorists across Zamfara, Sokoto, Kaduna, Kebbi, and Katsina States, neutralising several fighters, arresting 23 suspects, and rescuing 24 hostages.
“In the North Central, troops of Operation Enduring Peace killed terrorists, arrested seven criminals and rescued two kidnap victims. Another suspect was caught with N3 million ransom cash in Bassa LGA,” Kangye said.
He added that Operation Whirl Stroke in Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba, Kogi, and the Federal Capital Territory led to the arrest of nine extremists and the rescue of 13 hostages.
Kangye further noted that the joint operations recovered large quantities of arms, ammunition, vehicles, motorcycles, and explosives.
“During the month under review, troops have continued to intensify joint operations aimed at neutralising threats to national security, restoring stability, and safeguarding the lives and property of citizens,” he stated.
Earlier, it was reported that the DHQ said 6,260 terrorists have been killed and 14,138 criminals apprehended in joint operations nationwide over the past two years. The update was given by Deputy Director, Defence Media Operations, Brig.-Gen. Ibrahim Abu-Mawashi, during a media parley marking the second anniversary of Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, and other service chiefs.
