Former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani has commented on the ongoing controversy surrounding Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s planned resumption at the National Assembly.
Sani noted that the senator’s return remains uncertain as long as her case is still before the court.
He wrote: “If the pending court issues have to be resolved before the Kogi Senator resumes, then the resumption has no date.”
Insight Media earlier reported that the Senate, in a letter dated September 4, 2025, rejected Akpoti-Uduaghan’s notice of intent to resume legislative duties. The letter, signed by the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, explained that her six-month suspension is still in effect pending the outcome of the Court of Appeal case.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, had informed the Senate that her suspension lapsed on September 4. However, the Red Chamber clarified that the suspension imposed on March 6, 2025, following allegations of insubordination over her refusal to change her seat during plenary remains active.
The Senate emphasized that the issue is sub judice and would only be reconsidered after the appellate court delivers its judgment.
