The Lagos State Police Command has placed restrictions on activities linked to the ongoing Egungun festival, directing that all celebrations be confined to approved outing points and designated venues.
Police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, stressing that the measure is intended to protect lives and property while ensuring the rights of other religious and cultural groups are not violated.
According to the command, the ban on street processions and public marches follows recent incidents of violence, destruction of property, and clashes between rival Egungun groups in parts of the state.
Festival organisers and participants have been instructed to notify the Commissioner of Police and apply for security cover before any outing.
The police further warned that anyone who flouts the directive or disturbs public order will face the full weight of the law.
