The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has urged schools and education stakeholders in Anambra State to prioritise accurate candidate registration as Nigeria prepares to adopt Computer-Based Examinations (CBE) for the 2025/2026 session.

Speaking at a strategic meeting in Awka with officials of the Ministry of Education and other key players, WAEC Branch Controller, Mr. Tunde Ajibade, stressed that proper registration is the foundation of a successful CBE.

Ajibade warned that mistakes during registration such as uploading the wrong photograph could prevent candidates from gaining entry into the examination hall, which will require facial verification. “A successful examination begins with proper registration. Some errors can be corrected, but others can cost candidates admission opportunities,” he cautioned.

He also expressed concern over the growing number of amendment requests caused by registration errors and called for thorough training and sensitization of registration officers.

On the issue of examination centres, Ajibade explained that only schools that meet WAEC’s accreditation requirements would be used as CBE centres, while those lacking adequate facilities would be merged with nearby accredited schools.

Addressing provisions for candidates with special needs, WAEC’s Anambra Head of Examinations, Mr. Olanrewaju Fadehan, noted that schools must do more than simply tick the disability column during registration. He said they are required to purchase and complete a proforma form and notify WAEC early so that necessary accommodations can be arranged.

Anambra Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, applauded WAEC’s proactive engagement with stakeholders. She reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting examination processes that uphold transparency and enhance the quality of education.
