The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has mocked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing those still in the opposition party as “undertakers” waiting to conduct its final burial rites.
APC’s spokesperson in the state, Mr. Seye Oladejo stated this in a press release on Saturday in Lagos while reacting to the recent wave of defections of PDP leaders into the APC.
Oladejo urged the PDP to stop trivializing what he called the “wave of defections currently rocking its already fractured structure.”
According to him, “The PDP’s claim that defections cannot break it is not only laughable but also exposes the party’s chronic state of denial, delusion, and self-deception. What is happening to the PDP today is not mere political migration; it is the inevitable consequence of years of internal deceit, lack of ideology, and serial betrayal among its leaders.”
He added that the exodus from the PDP was a sign that even its loyal members had lost faith in a party that had failed to reform itself or offer a credible alternative to Nigerians.
“The few remaining members of the PDP are perhaps the undertakers, staying behind only to perform the final rites and dispose of what remains of a once-dominant but now lifeless political carcass,” Oladejo said.
The APC spokesman maintained that the ruling party was not surprised by the defections, noting that the PDP had long thrived on propaganda and empty rhetoric.
He blamed the PDP for the alleged mismanagement of the country during its 16 years in power and argued that it could not suddenly transform into a credible opposition.
“The PDP remains a cesspool of confusion and leadership vacuum,” he said.
Oladejo further claimed that the defections reflect growing confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing them as endorsements of the APC’s commitment to “progress, stability, and people-centred governance.”
“The PDP should conduct an honest post-mortem of its failures and accept that its relevance in Nigeria’s political space has drastically declined,” he advised.
He added that the opposition could not claim to be unshaken when its members were “fleeing in droves” to join a party that represents “genuine leadership and national renewal.”
“The Nigerian people are speaking loudly and the message is clear, the era of deceitful opposition politics is over,” Oladejo concluded.
Meanwhile, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that several PDP governors, lawmakers, and key members have recently defected to the APC.
On Thursday, two of the remaining PDP members in the Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr. Olajide Oguntodu (Akure South 1 Constituency) and Mr. Oluwatoyin Daodu (Akoko South West 1 Constituency) — joined the APC, citing internal crises within their former party.
