An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has adjourned proceedings to November 27, 2025, in a case concerning the preservation of funds allocated to Osun State local governments from the Federation Account.
Justice Ladiran Akintola, who presides over the case, also extended an earlier order freezing 30 United Bank for Africa (UBA) accounts where the disputed funds are lodged, pending the next hearing.
The court heard arguments on applications challenging its jurisdiction, as well as motions filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking to be joined in the suit.
Counsel for the claimants, Musibau Adetunmbi (SAN), opposed both the joinder applications and the jurisdictional challenge filed by the APC. He argued that neither party had the locus standi to intervene in the matter.
“As far as this case is concerned, the APC is a stranger and cannot file this motion,” Adetunmbi said, urging the court to dismiss both applications.
APC’s lead counsel, Kazeem Gbadamosi (SAN), maintained that the court lacked territorial jurisdiction, arguing that under the 1999 Constitution, only local government authorities have the right to manage such funds.
Justice Akintola, however, dismissed an application by UBA’s lead counsel, Ojo Adebayo (SAN), who requested a sine die adjournment (indefinite postponement) pending a Supreme Court ruling on a related matter.
The judge ruled that such an adjournment could not be granted while jurisdictional issues remained unresolved.
In a separate but related case filed by the PDP against UBA, Justice Akintola ordered that the matter be transferred to another court for reassignment by the Chief Judge.
