The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Fasina, has resumed duty after a six-month accumulated Annual and Research Leave, pledging to consolidate on the milestones achieved under his leadership.
Speaking at at stakeholders’ meeting held on campus on Tuesday, Prof. Fasina expressed gratitude to the university community for maintaining peace during his absence and emphasized the need for continued harmony among staff and students, describing peace as “a vital condition for meaningful growth and development.”
“I will continue my administration’s good works for this university,” he said. “With about four months left in my tenure, I intend to focus on consolidating the achievements recorded over the past four years and seven months. I am confident that the Governing Council will elect a capable successor who will sustain and build upon these successes.”
The Vice Chancellor also assured both staff and students of renewed efforts toward welfare enhancement and infrastructural development, promising that his final months in office would be devoted to deepening FUOYE’s academic and administrative reforms.
The Vice President (South-West Zone) of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Taiwo Owolabi, led a delegation of FUOYE students to welcome Prof. Fasina back to office. Owolabi described peace on campus as “non-negotiable,” warning that the student body would resist any attempt by individuals or union leaders to disrupt the institution’s stability.
“This is our university, and we are the biggest stakeholders. We suffer the most when crises erupt,” Owolabi said. “We won’t allow anyone with selfish motives to jeopardize our future. Under Prof. Fasina, the university has enjoyed peace and progress, and we intend to keep it that way.”
The President of the FUOYE Alumni Association, Temitope Arogundade, also praised the Vice Chancellor for his transformative leadership and commitment to the institution’s development.
“We are delighted to welcome Prof. Fasina back after his well-deserved leave,” Arogundade said. “He has been an exemplary leader who has delivered remarkable progress in infrastructure, research, and staff welfare. The massive turnout today shows the love and respect he commands across the FUOYE community. At this point, our message is simple, let there be peace on campus.”
Leaders of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), Abraham Ayeni and Babafemi Olusola respectively, commended Prof. Fasina’s leadership, expressing confidence in his administration’s commitment to staff welfare.
Senior officials of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), including Akinrope Olufemi and Owonsaye Wale, called on the union’s national leadership to intervene in resolving internal disagreements within the FUOYE chapter to sustain industrial harmony.
Insightlinks had earlier reported that the FUOYE Governing Council during its 7th Emergency Meeting on April 14, 2025, ratified 126 working days of Fasina’s accumulated Annual and Research Leave out of the 288 days he had applied for.
Prof. Fasina’s tenure as Vice Chancellor is expected to end in early 2026. Under his leadership, FUOYE has witnessed significant infrastructural expansion, academic programme accreditation, and enhanced staff motivation, which stakeholders say have contributed to the university’s steady rise among Nigeria’s top-ranking federal institutions.
