A Kano State High Court, presided over by Justice Musa Dahuru Muhammad, has sentenced a local football coach, Hayatu Muhammad, to eight years’ imprisonment for sodomising his underage player.

The convict, a resident of Sanka in Dala Local Government Area, was found guilty of committing the offence on two different occasions at separate locations.

According to court records, Muhammad initially pleaded not guilty to the charges.

To establish the case beyond reasonable doubt, the Kano State prosecutor, Ibrahim Arif Garba, called five witnesses who gave testimonies against the defendant, while the convict served as the only witness in his own defence.

The court held that the act violated the provisions of Section 284 of the Penal Code Law.

After reviewing the evidence and testimonies, Justice Dahuru concluded that the prosecution had successfully proven the case and convicted the defendant accordingly.

He thereafter sentenced Muhammad to four years’ imprisonment on each of the two counts, ordering that the terms run concurrently from the date of judgment.
