The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has called on all accredited tertiary institutions across the country to update and upload the records of their students on its Student Verification Portal ahead of the 2025/2026 academic session.
In a statement issued by the Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, NELFUND explained that the exercise is a proactive measure to ensure a smooth and efficient verification and loan application process once the student loan portal officially opens.
According to the Fund, institutions are required to capture and upload accurate information for all students, both returning and newly admitted using each student’s admission number or other verifiable unique identifiers.
“NELFUND acknowledges the vital role tertiary institutions play in the success of the Education Loan Scheme and seeks their continued cooperation and partnership to widen access to higher education for all eligible Nigerian students,” the statement read.
The agency further emphasized that only students whose details have been properly uploaded and verified by their respective institutions will be eligible to apply for and benefit from the student loan scheme.
To facilitate a hitch-free process, NELFUND urged institutions to begin and complete the data upload promptly and to appoint qualified officers to oversee the exercise in accordance with its technical guidelines.
“This collaboration is crucial to ensuring that no eligible student is left behind as we prepare to open the portal for the new academic session,” Mrs. Oluwatuyi added.
Reaffirming its commitment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, NELFUND restated its dedication to promoting equitable access to tertiary education by providing financial support to students who need it the most.
