Aloy Ejimakor, legal counsel to detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, has confirmed he remains in custody at Kuje Prison following his arrest during the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest in Abuja.

Ejimakor made the disclosure via a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, stating that while he is safe, he is still being held, and expressed concerns over the conduct of his case.

“I am safe and sound but still under custody at Kuje prison. The Magistrate refused to listen to our submissions. He insisted on remanding us till Friday and got his way,” Ejimakor wrote.

He further alleged that authorities intentionally diverted his case to a specific magistrate court in Kuje, bypassing other available courts in Abuja.

“For context: Keep in mind that they bypassed several Magistrate courts in town and headed to this one in Kuje,” he added.

Ejimakor was among several individuals arrested on Monday during a protest led by activist Omoyele Sowore, demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

In response to Ejimakor’s involvement, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, called for disciplinary action from legal regulatory bodies. He criticized the lawyer’s participation in the protest, citing it as a breach of legal ethics.

“I spotted Aloy Ejimakor, one of Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyers, among the small group of protesters mobilised in Abuja by Omoyele Sowore,” Onanuga stated.

“As a lawyer, he should understand the principle of sub judice, especially with an ongoing treason case still before a competent court.”

Onanuga also emphasized that with the prosecution having closed its case, Kanu’s legal team should focus on preparing their defense instead of engaging in public demonstrations.
