A pregnant woman was killed while four others sustained injuries after a heavy-duty payloader vehicle lost control along Akarigbo Road in the Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The tragic incident occurred just three days after another crash opposite the Redemption Camp on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway claimed one life and injured four others.

An eyewitness identified as John Olakunle told reporters on Thursday that the accident happened around 9 a.m. opposite a bank in the area.

Olakunle explained that the payloader suddenly lost control, veered across the road, and rammed into both a tricycle and a Toyota Camry car.

He said, “An accident occurred this morning along the Akarigbo Road in Sagamu LGA. A Payloader lost control and crossed from one lane to the other lane. It rammed into a Camry vehicle and a tricycle.

“One pregnant woman was in the tricycle that was crushed, and she is feared dead at the moment. About three other people sustained serious injuries and were rescued by residents of the area to different hospitals.”

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the vehicles involved were an unregistered payloader, a Toyota Camry with number plate AAB-248 MK, and a commercial tricycle with number plate JGB-643 VD.

He noted that an eyewitness reported that the payloader, while in motion, lost control and swerved into the opposite lane, colliding with the car and tricycle.

According to Akinbiyi, the impact of the crash caused the death of a pregnant woman and left four others with varying degrees of injuries.

“Based on the eyewitness’s account, the payloader lost control and swerved from the opposite lane—outbound Sabo—into the other lane—inbound Sabo—and rammed into both the tricycle and the Camry.

“The payloader thereby caused the presumed death of an adult pregnant woman, severe injuries to other adult males in the tricycle, while the payloader operator had few bruises; the Camry driver sustained a serious degree of injury,” he stated.

Akinbiyi confirmed that five people were involved in the crash—four adult males and one adult female—adding that the woman, who was pregnant, died at the scene.

“The presumed dead woman has been deposited at a morgue, while the injured have been transported by bystanders to various hospitals in Sagamu,” he added.
