A man identified as Victor Benjamin Fejemirokum, suspected of being involved in the killing of Federal Road Safety Corps officer SRC Lasisi Funmilayo Oluwamayokun and her daughter, Sewa Lasisi, has been taken into custody by the Eastern South Regional Police Command of the Ghana Police Service.

The arrest was confirmed during a press briefing on Sunday, with a video shared through the Facebook page of the Ghanaian media outlet, Channel One TV.

Regional Commander George Ohene-Boadi explained that the suspect was tracked down at the home of a friend where he had been hiding. He said police acted on intelligence suggesting the suspect had escaped from Nigeria and was staying at the location, prompting an immediate operation that led to his arrest.

He said, “I want to inform you about the arrest of a Nigerian man suspected to have killed a woman and her daughter in Nigeria and run to hide in Ghana to avoid the Nigeria Police arresting him.

“The suspect, Victor Benjamin Fejemirokum, was arrested based on an interception of a viral video which alleged that the suspect had abducted and murdered a lady who worked with the FRSC and her daughter in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria.

“The suspect was wanted by the Nigerian Police but he ran to Ghana to hide with his friend at Akyem Wenchi, a suburb of Akwatia. The Eastern South Regional Police Command, on receipt of the information that the suspect was hiding in his friend’s house at Akwatia, quickly deployed an intelligence-led operation to arrest the suspect in his hideout.”

He added that efforts were ongoing to return the suspect to Nigeria to face investigation.

“The suspect is currently in police custody and frantic efforts are underway to hand him over to the Nigerian authorities,” the police boss said.

Earlier reports by PUNCH Metro indicated that 39-year-old Lasisi and her teenage daughter went missing on November 2 after leaving their home at Obasanjo Hilltop Estate, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Oluwamayokun, a Superintendent Route Commander, was a senior FRSC officer tasked with supervising multiple routes and leading major enforcement duties.

According to the Ogun State Police Command, repeated attempts by family and colleagues to contact the officer and her daughter were unsuccessful. Days later, investigators found their mutilated bodies at a suspected herbalist’s hideout in Osun State.

Following the discovery, the herbalist and other suspects were apprehended, although the main suspect had escaped.

Ogun State Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo later confirmed that the matter had been transferred to the Osun State Police Command for further action, with Ogun command providing necessary assistance.

The Osun Police PRO had previously noted that a formal update would be released once ongoing investigations were concluded.
