The Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP) has dismissed rumours circulating online that veteran Yoruba actor and cultural legend Chief Olalere Osunpaimo, popularly known as Baba Eda Onile Ola, has passed away.
In a statement released on Saturday and signed by the organisation’s National Public Relations Officer, Adejonwo Oluwafemi, ANTP confirmed that the actor is very much alive and in good condition.
According to the statement, the false reports originated from posts shared on Facebook.
“We wish to clarify that the stories claiming Chief Olalere OsunPaimo (MFR) is dead are entirely untrue,” the association said. “After speaking with his wife, we can confirm that he is alive and well.”
ANTP condemned those responsible for spreading the rumour and urged the public to be cautious about sharing unverified claims.
“We strongly advise everyone to verify news before distributing it so as not to contribute to the spread of misinformation,” the statement added.
