The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained popular TikTok influencer and content creator, Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, after a viral video showed him driving dangerously and crashing his car while live-streaming.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the police said the arrest followed widespread public outrage over the incident, which occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025.
According to the police, Peller’s actions posed a grave threat to public safety and required urgent intervention.
“The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained Habeeb Hamzat, also known as ‘Peller’, following a viral video that surfaced online on Sunday, December 14, 2025. In the video, he was seen driving recklessly, which resulted in a serious road crash while the incident was being live-streamed, thereby endangering his life and the lives of other road users,” the statement read in part.
The command described the act as extremely dangerous, noting that it could have had fatal consequences for both the influencer and innocent members of the public.
The police further stated that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation.
“The matter is currently under investigation by the SCID. The outcome of the investigation will be made public, and the suspect will be charged to a court of competent jurisdiction in line with the law,” the statement added.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a stern warning to social media influencers and the general public against using online platforms to promote or engage in unlawful behaviour.
He cautioned that reckless acts carried out for online attention would no longer be tolerated, stressing that the law would be enforced without bias.
“Such lawlessness will not be condoned, and the full weight of the law will be applied to anyone found culpable. The command also urges all road users to strictly obey traffic regulations as we remain committed to ensuring public safety and peace,” the police said.
The incident has once again sparked public debate over the growing trend of risky stunts by content creators seeking online engagement. Many Nigerians have called for stricter enforcement of traffic laws to discourage similar behaviour.
Authorities continue to warn that reckless driving, speeding and disregard for traffic rules remain major causes of road accidents in Lagos, and anyone found endangering lives will be prosecuted, regardless of social status or online influence.
