President Bola Tinubu has approved the posting of four Nigerian ambassador-designates to key foreign missions in France, the United States, the United Kingdom and Turkey.
The approval was announced on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the postings were drawn from the list of ambassadors confirmed by the Senate in December 2025.
According to Onanuga, Ambassador Ayodele Oke has been posted to France, while Colonel Lateef Are will serve as Nigeria’s ambassador to the United States. Ambassador Amin Dalhatu, a former Nigerian envoy to South Korea, has been appointed as the High Commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom.
Also appointed is Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman, a former governor of Kebbi State, who will serve as Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Turkey. Onanuga noted that the posting to Turkey is particularly significant, as President Tinubu is expected to embark on a state visit to the country next week.
“The President has approved the posting of four ambassador-designates out of the 68 confirmed by the Senate last December,” the statement read.
He added that the approvals have been formally communicated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with instructions to notify the governments of the affected countries in line with established diplomatic procedures.
The postings are part of the broader list of ambassadorial nominees earlier screened and confirmed by the National Assembly. In December 2025, the Senate confirmed dozens of nominees following the adoption of a report by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, which said all the candidates were found suitable for appointment.
Among those earlier confirmed were both career and non-career diplomats, including former ministers, ex-governors and senior public officials. In total, the Senate approved 34 career ambassadors and high commissioners, alongside 30 non-career ambassadors and high commissioners.
