The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that candidates living with disabilities will not pay for application forms for the 2026/2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The board made this known in its weekly bulletin released on Monday. According to JAMB, the initiative which is now a standing policy will be handled through its Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG), which oversees support for candidates with special needs.

Speaking during a meeting with key stakeholders at JAMB’s national headquarters in Abuja, the Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, reaffirmed the board’s commitment to promoting inclusiveness in access to education.

He explained that the free application scheme covers a wide range of disabilities, including Down syndrome, autism, dyslexia and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), among others.

“To support persons living with disabilities, JAMB will issue free application documents to all categories of persons living with disabilities,” Oloyede said.

He added that beneficiaries must meet the basic admission requirement of at least five O’Level credits obtained in not more than two sittings.

In addition, JAMB will provide audiobooks for blind candidates. Oloyede explained that the audiobooks are digital versions of standard printed materials and will be available in common audio formats such as MP3, WMV and WMA, making them accessible on various audio-enabled devices.

According to the registrar, the initiative reflects JAMB’s determination to eliminate barriers and ensure that candidates with disabilities enjoy equal opportunities to pursue higher education.

Meanwhile, JAMB has confirmed that registration for the 2026/2027 UTME began on Monday, January 26, and will close on Saturday, February 28.
