The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) have set up a joint technical committee aimed at harmonising their operations and improving Nigeria’s public examination system.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday in Benin by NABTEB’s Assistant Director of Media and Protocol, Mr Uchechukwu Olisah, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Olisah said the decision was reached during a meeting between the Registrar of NABTEB, Dr Aminu Mohammed, and the Registrar of NECO, Prof Dantani Wushishi, held at the NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
According to him, both registrars led their management teams in discussions focused on strengthening examination administration and enhancing institutional cooperation.
He quoted Mohammed as stressing the need for synergy among examination bodies, noting that collaboration remains vital to national development.
The NABTEB registrar also called for wider coordination involving other examination agencies such as the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS), while acknowledging that each organisation has its specific mandate.
In his remarks, Wushishi described the meeting as a significant step toward deepening cooperation between both institutions.
He said the visit by NABTEB demonstrated strong institutional goodwill and reaffirmed NECO’s commitment to renewed partnership.
Olisah added that the newly inaugurated 10-member technical committee, made up of five representatives from each body, will work on developing operational frameworks, harmonising strategies and recommending implementation measures to both chief executives.
