The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) have inaugurated a joint technical committee aimed at harmonising their operations and strengthening collaboration within Nigeria’s public examination system.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Assistant Director of Media and Protocol at NABTEB, Mr Uchechukwu Olisah, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Benin.
According to the statement, the decision followed a meeting between the Registrar of NABTEB, Dr Aminu Mohammed, and the Registrar of NECO, Prof Dantani Wushishi, held at NECO headquarters in Minna.
Both chief executives reportedly led their respective management teams in discussions focused on improving examination administration and advancing shared institutional goals.
Olisah quoted the NABTEB Registrar as stressing the need for greater synergy among examination bodies, noting that sustained collaboration is essential for national development.
Mohammed described the meeting as an opportunity to renew and deepen institutional partnership through constructive engagement. He also advocated broader coordination among examination bodies, including the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS), while acknowledging their distinct mandates.
In his remarks, Wushishi described the meeting as a significant step toward strengthening ties between the two organisations. He said NABTEB’s visit demonstrated strong institutional goodwill and expressed NECO’s readiness for renewed collaboration.
The newly established 10-member technical committee, comprising five representatives from each organisation, is expected to develop operational frameworks, harmonise strategies and propose implementation modalities for consideration by the chief executives.
