The Kano State Censorship Board has directed the immediate suspension of operations at all entertainment centres across Kano State as Muslims begin the holy month of Ramadan.

The order, announced in a statement on Tuesday by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, affects event centres popularly known as gala houses as well as Disc Jockey operators and other entertainment outfits.

According to the directive, the closure takes effect from 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, and will remain in force throughout the fasting period.

The board explained that the decision was taken to create a calm and spiritually conducive environment for residents to observe the Ramadan fast and carry out religious activities without distractions.

“The closure will remain in force throughout the fasting period, while the date for reopening, particularly during the Eid celebrations, will be announced at the appropriate time,” the statement said.

The agency urged all affected operators and stakeholders to comply fully with the directive, stressing that the measure aligns with its statutory mandate to regulate entertainment activities within the state.

The board also offered prayers for a peaceful and healthy Ramadan, expressing hope that residents would witness and observe the holy month in mercy and prosperity.
