The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Citizenship and Leadership, Nasir Ja’oje, has resigned his position as he prepares to contest an elective office in the 2027 general elections.

His resignation follows a directive from the President mandating all political appointees with political ambitions to step down on or before March 31, 2026.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued by his media aide, Abba Anwar, who noted that Ja’oje complied with the directive in line with the administration’s position.

The presidential order affects a wide range of appointees, including ministers, ministers of state, special advisers, and senior special assistants.

In his resignation letter, Ja’oje expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, describing his appointment as a reflection of the administration’s commitment to youth inclusion and leadership development.

He also reaffirmed his willingness to continue contributing to national development whenever called upon.

Ja’oje praised the government’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” noting that its policies and programmes are already making a positive impact on citizens across the country.

According to the statement, his decision to step down signals his readiness to enter the electoral race, with supporters expressing confidence in his chances and pledging their backing for his political ambition.
