Popular Nigerian comedian and content creator, Samuel Perry, widely known as Broda Shaggy, has been hospitalised after he was reportedly shot in the Sango-Ota area of Ogun State.

According to information gathered by PUNCH Metro, the incident happened on Sunday afternoon under the Sango-Ota bridge while the comedian was allegedly filming a comedy skit.

Details surrounding the shooting remain unclear. However, a police source who spoke anonymously because he was not authorised to discuss the matter said the entertainer sustained the gunshot injury during the filming.

The source disclosed that members of his crew quickly rushed him to Blooming Care Hospital in the Alakuko area of Lagos, where he received initial medical attention.

“He was shooting a skit under the Sango-Ota bridge when he sustained a gunshot injury. We still don’t have full details of how it happened, but his crew members who were there immediately took him to the hospital,” the source said.

Medical personnel at the hospital reportedly administered first aid before he was later referred to Duchess International Hospital in Ikeja’s Government Residential Area, where he is currently recovering.

Efforts by journalists to reach both hospitals for comments were unsuccessful, as calls to the numbers listed on their social media pages did not connect. Text messages sent had also not been replied to as of the time this report was filed.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed that the police became aware of the case after the hospital reported the gunshot victim.

According to her, detectives and a patrol team were immediately deployed to the hospital, where officers discovered the victim was Broda Shaggy.

“The hospital contacted the police to report that a gunshot victim had been brought in. Our officers moved to the facility and found that the victim was the skit maker popularly known as Broda Shaggy. He was on a stretcher with an injury to his thigh,” she said.

Adebisi added that although the incident reportedly occurred in Sango-Ota, which falls outside Lagos police jurisdiction, investigations are ongoing.

However, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the command had not received any official report of the incident.

Attempts to reach Broda Shaggy’s manager, Olufemi Oguntamu, also known as Penzaar, were unsuccessful as calls and messages to his phone had not been answered as of press time.

The development comes nearly two years after another Nigerian content creator, Afeez Ojesanmi, popularly known as Salo, was reportedly robbed of his jewellery and shot around the Lekki area of Lagos in October 2024.
