The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. O.O. Oluyede, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, have arrived in Maiduguri, Borno State, following Monday evening’s triple bomb blasts that killed 23 people and injured 108 others.

The senior military officers touched down on Wednesday aboard a white-and-red jet at the Maiduguri Air Force Base, according to reports.

Earlier, President Bola Tinubu had directed the service chiefs to relocate to the state in response to the attacks. In a statement shared via his official X account on Tuesday, the President expressed condolences to the victims’ families and praised troops for repelling coordinated assaults on military formations.

Tinubu described the attacks as desperate attempts by terrorist elements to spread fear, noting that they remain under sustained pressure from the armed forces and other security agencies across various operational theatres.

He also instructed security chiefs to take charge of the situation in Maiduguri and directed emergency responders to ensure proper treatment for those injured.

Upon arrival, the CDS and COAS were received at the Maiduguri Air Force Base by the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, the General Officer Commanding, and other senior military officials.
