A non governmental organization in Osun state, Omotayo Adegboye Foundation has granted N15m scholarship to 150 students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.
This is as the foundation also unveiled newly reconstructed toilet building donated to the University of Ilesa.
At a presentation ceremony on Wednesday on the OAU campus, each student collected N100,000 to support their academic journey.
Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Simeon Bamire, praised the foundation’s continuous commitment to the growth of the institution. He highlighted its potential to inspire long-term societal contributions from recipients, describing the progression from 106 beneficiaries in maiden edition held in 2025 to 150 this year, as remarkable.
Professor Bamire also said the young scholars will cherish the gesture forever.
He said, “They did it the first time for over 100 students, and now, the second time, for 150 students. This is something that may appear unimaginable, and so we want to thank God for their lives. We also appreciate them for coming back to the university to support these students. These students can never forget this type of support, and they will continue to pray for everyone who has supported this cause and the foundation, including the staff of this university and myself.”
In his remarks, Omotayo Adegboye, who spoke through the organization’s secretary, Ariyo Odole, told reporters the program targets bright students from low-income homes. He affirmed plans to continue annual N100,000 payments through their full degree programs and also broaden support to primary and secondary levels, plus scout for exceptional talents in need.
Odole emphasised sustainability as a core goal, stating that building on last year’s success to foster enduring educational access, has been instrumental.
Shortly after leaving OAU campus, the team moved to the University of Ilesa to inaugurate newly constructed N20 million modern toilet complex donated to the school.
Speaking on behalf of UNILESA, the Registrar, Mr Funso Ojo emphasised the significance of the upgrade for enhancing hygiene and strengthening infrastructure, while commending the organization for the gesture.
Ojo said the facility will support the 13,000 students and 1,000 staff of the university.
“We want to thank you for this project. It will surely support the lives of 14,000 staff and students of this institution,” he remarked.
Board Chairman Professor Saheed Adekilekun highlighted that engaging with UNILESA leadership played a crucial role in shaping the project. He expressed optimism for future collaborations that will further benefit the institution.
Omotayo Adegboye, the founder of the foundation, is a distinguished lawyer based in the United Kingdom and an alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University.
