It was a historic moment on Wednesday as members of the Police Service Commission, led by the Southwest representative, DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), paid a courtesy visit to the palace of Olojudo of Ido-Osun, Oba Olayinka Ishola Jokotola.

The PSC, who were in Osun State to monitor the ongoing training for new police intakes, visited the palace to honour Oba Jokotola.

Oba Jokotola, who was a police chief before ascending the throne of his forebears, also honoured DIG Lakanu with an honorary title of Aare Gbobaniyi of Ido-Osun Alayemore Kingdom.

While welcoming the visitors to his palace, the monarch said the throne of Olojudo is of the historical and highly revered throne in Yorubaland.

“You’re welcome to the Palace of Olojudo Alayemore. This is one of the highly stool in Yorubaland as we’re direct descendants of Oduduwa”.

Announcing the title, the monarch said the diligent service and good records of service of DIG Lakanu informed the appointment.

He also described Lakanu as a man who has dedicated his lifetime to service for Nigeria both as a police officer and as chairman of the police service commission.

Olojudo also commended the PSC for the ongoing recruitment of 50,000 police officers.

Appreciating the monarch, DIG Lakanu expressed happiness over the conferment of the title.

The installation shall be done on a date to be announced later.

The former police boss also charged community leaders to encourage their wards and youths to join the police force.

“Most importantly, we realised that that wards and youths are not interested in joining the police force again. It may not be their fault but I want to charge you to encourage them. Let’s galvanize them to be part of the system. A day is coming when we will need them but if they are not there now, we will not see them,” Lakanu said.

Present at the palace were, Alhaji Gbadebo Ajao, Chairman Ido-Osun Advisory Council; Hon Akin Ajetunmobi, Special Adviser to Governor Ademola Adeleke on school monitoring;Hon Abiodun Awolola, former House of Assembly member; Elder T A Adeleye, Chairman Ido-Osun Descendant Union; Deacon Akin Ogunwuyi; Chiefs of the Alayemore led by Chief Basiru Oyewale and Obas and Baale within the Kingdom.

The PSC Commissioner was accompanied by members of commission, DCP Sunday Akinola, some senior police officers, among others.
