The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has barred a member of the House of Representatives, Lukman Mudashiru, from entering his palace.
Mudashiru, who represents Ayedire/Iwo/Olaoluwa Federal Constituency, was accused by the monarch of neglecting traditional institutions in Iwoland.
In a statement shared on his Facebook page on Friday, the Oluwo said the lawmaker had failed to give an account of his stewardship to the people, despite holding a position that directly impacts the district.
Before taking the action, the monarch had also publicly endorsed another indigene, Ayodeji Bello, who is seeking the Accord Party’s ticket for the constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Explaining his stance, Oba Akanbi stressed that, as the traditional head of the district, he is entitled to regular engagement and accountability from political office holders representing the area.
He noted that anyone elected or appointed to serve the district owes a duty of respect and responsibility to the traditional institution, adding that such roles require proper communication and recognition of the stool.
Sources indicated that the monarch had earlier criticised the lawmaker for allegedly sidelining traditional authorities, a move that culminated in the decision to bar him from the palace.
Reacting to the development, Mudashiru downplayed the issue, describing it as a private matter.
“It is an issue between a father and his son,” he said. “It will be resolved because it is a family affair.”
